Blog Tour and Review - Just in Case by Elizabeth Marx

Scarlett Marbry was sixteen when her mother, an acclaimed Sacred Harp singer, committed suicide, sending her away from Crossroads, Alabama and whatever pushed her mother over the edge.  Seven years later, she’s returning for her grandparents’ funeral and the letter her mother left her when she died. Not only does Scarlett have to face her deep Southern roots, but the one she left behind.

She’s never thought she was good enough for him …

Revell Marshall is used to working with fragile objects. He’s built a life and career around reassembling the delicate stained glass windows that saved the small town of Crossroads from ruin. Once Scarlett returns, he’s determined to win her heart, even if that means helping her piece together the facts of her mother’s past and exposes truths he’d rather leave buried.

What happens when your secrets are revealed to the world?

You better hold on tight to the one person you think you can trust…

Just in case.

Michele's Review:

Just In Case has a little bit of everything - second chance romance, mystery, humor, heartache.  Scarlett Marbry is back in her hometown for the funerals of her grandparents.  She intends to leave town as soon as she can, but when the will is read, she is shocked to learn that a condition of the will is that she stay in town until Easter in order to get the one thing she really wants - a letter written by her mother.
Although I felt like the story was a little slow in many places, my need to find out what the letter said kept me reading. And guessing. I had an inkling of what the letter was going to say, but when it was eventually revealed, it was so much more than I anticipated and it absolutely broke my heart.
I loved each of the main characters, Scarlett and Revell - but I especially loved the secondary characters like Alex and Polly Anna and Auntie and all of the Marbrys. Their personalities, their quirks, their quick wit... great characters are a huge part of the story for me, and there are so many great characters in Just In Case!
And all of the southern expressions!! Love!! I was born, raised, and still live in the north, but I've always been a southern girl at heart. I absolutely loved experiencing that small southern town and its people through this story.

This book deals with some heavy material. It may not be for everyone.
I found it to be an enjoyable read, and I was cheering for Scarlett and Revell til the very end.

3.5-4 stars.
