Review: Third Base by Heidi McLaughlin

Blurb
Ethan Davenport is already Boston’s most eligible bachelor, in his second season with the Boston Renegades and has eyes for the girl behind the visitors’ dugout who has been staring at him for a year.

That girl is Daisy Robinson, a journalism student at the University of Boston, a die-hard Renegades fan and determined to give Ethan a run for his money. He knows in order to have a chance with her, he needs to change his ways but he may just need her to wait until the off-season.

But with new found love comes challenges and Ethan and Daisy have to deal with his crazy schedule, school finals and his presence on her campus for some much needed media training. For Ethan nothing can come between him and Daisy, until a secret that she’s been keeping threatens to destroy them both.

Michele's Review:

First, let me say that I am a HUGE baseball fan. I live and breathe baseball. It is my first love, with books being a close second. So when I found out that Heidi McLaughlin was writing a book about baseball players, I could not wait to read it!

Ethan Davenport is the star third baseman for the Boston Renegades. He is good looking, single and a hit with the ladies. When he notices the pretty girl who sits behind the third base dugout every game, he decides that he needs to get to know her better. He tosses a foul ball to her and asks her to dinner. Daisy Robinson never misses a home game. She knows the game of baseball, and she hears the rumors about the players. When Ethan asks her out, she agrees as long as he agrees to her conditions.

As the two get to know each other, Ethan soon finds himself in a position that he is not familiar with - he's falling in love.

Their relationship is not simple. Ethan has a crazy schedule - spending most of his time at the ballpark, traveling to away games, with off days few and far between. Daisy is a busy college student who also helps out at home. Can the two of them survive the rumors, the baseball life and the secrets that threaten to tear them apart?

As someone who loves the game of baseball and who knows a little about what goes on in the clubhouse of a major league team, I really enjoyed this book and how true to life it is. I love that the BoRe blog articles are interspersed throughout the story. And if you've read previous works by Heidi McLaughlin, you'll notice a few familiar faces in this story.

Ethan and Daisy's story has many ups and downs. I laughed. I got angry. I may have even shed a tear or two. Just like I cheer on my favorite baseball team, I found myself cheering for Ethan and Daisy.

If you love baseball, sports romance, or just a good love story, Third Base will steal your heart.
Heidi McLaughlin hits a home run with this book and I am looking forward to future books in this series.

4 stars!
