Review of When I'm Gone by Abbi Glines

Synopsis:

Mase Colt-Manning has always preferred his humble life as a Texas rancher to his birthright as the son of a legendary rock star. In fact, he rarely visits his father’s rarefied world in Rosemary Beach, especially if it means bunking at his vile half-sister Nan’s house—until one visit leads to a chance encounter with a young, gorgeous house maid who awakens him with her off-key but spirited imitation of a country music star…

Reese Ellis finally has her freedom. After escaping a lifetime of abuse from her parents and classmates for an undiagnosed learning disorder, she seizes the opportunity to be a house maid to some of the richest families in Rosemary Beach. But her job is in jeopardy when she causes an accident at the home of her most important client, Nan Dillon. When a hot, half-naked stranger with a cowboy’s swagger comes to her rescue, she’s intrigued—then afraid once he shows his own interest. Reese has never met a trustworthy man in her life. Will Mase be any different?

Review by Michele:

If you have never read a book by Abbi Glines, stop what you are doing and start reading now! Her books are quick, easy reads. I'd consider them light reading, but she also touches on serious subject matters.

When I'm Gone is the 11th book in the Rosemary Beach series, but it can be read as a standalone. I've really enjoyed all of the books in the series so far, but I really liked the characters of Mase and Reese. Mase is a dirty talking cowboy, but we get to experience his soft and caring side when he meets Reese. Reese has had a really rough childhood, but she has escaped to Rosemary Beach and is making a life for herself when she encounters the gorgeous Mase Colt-Manning. My heart absolutely broke for Reese and all that she has been through. No child should be treated the way she was, and I was rooting for her to find her happy ending. I loved watching Reese come out of her shell and to learn to trust again. And Mase.... totally swoon-worthy.

We also get to revisit some past favorites from Rosemary Beach - Rush and Blair, Grant and Harlow.

This book does not really end in a cliffhanger, but it does have some unanswered questions and leaves you wanting more! I can't wait to read more about Mase and Reese in the next book! When You're Back will be released in July 2015.

4 stars.
